It’s 2022! The start of a new year and it’s time to follow through with those resolutions you set.  This year is all about self-care! This means it’s time to take care of yourself.  If you are a busy corporate, overwhelmed mama, stressed out college student, or anxious stay at home wife, self care is the word of the day.  Do you ever feel too busy to put on lotion after your shower?  Queue huge LAUGH out loud. My sis and I were talking about this the other day.  It’s the little moments like lotioning up that matter the most, right?  Keep reading to learn these Top 3 Beauty + Wellness Trends of 2022!

Self care is more than you think. It’s about bettering your body which means getting fit, eating better, being less stressed out and more. You gotta take care of yourself.

Feast your eyes on these 3 trends you can get behind:

1. Getting Fit and Strong

Fitness, and no you don’t have to kill yourself in the gym for this. In my twenties, I used to HATE working out. I mean, hate, with a passion, yet I was active 4 to 6 days a week. I loathed walking to my apartment fitness center knowing what lied ahead, an hour or so of butt-kicking workout.

Now, in my thirties, I actually appreciate working out.

It makes me feel better, makes me feel like I’m doing something good for my body and I can really feel the difference. That said, why is it that I only work out once ever 4 or 5 months? Yikes (blushing).

Regular exercise is key. Set a schedule and try your best to stick to it. You can start small in the beginning. Once a week work outs, walking in your neighborhood, doing home workouts like walking up and down the stairs a few dozen times, yoga, etc.  As your confidence and strength builds, so will your workout.

Having a good workout brings so many rewards:

  • Clearer, cleaner glowing skin
  • More energized
  • Clearer mind
  • Better sleep at night
  • A glow that you may not notice yourself but others will

2022 is all about taking classes. This puts the fun back in your workout.

Try martial arts classes. Martial arts and/or self defense classes are super fun and won’t even feel like exercise. Plus, you get to exercise in a community setting, connect with others and just feel better overall.

These kinds of classes like krav maga, are great for core strength, muscle-building, and improving your overall fitness and strength.

If classes just aren’t your thing, the important thing is to get moving.

Grab a fitbit and get moving. Here are some ideas:

  • Watch yoga videos on YouTube
  • Walk around the block a few times
  • Grab this affordable stationary bike and bike at home while watching TV
  • Take 30 minutes of each day to stretch and do strength exercises (crunches, donkey kicks, etc.)
  • Life barbells during TV commercials when you’re at home in the evening
  • Workout videos in your living room

2. Simple Beauty

When it comes to beauty trends, there are many tricks of the trade.  There is a new beauty trend every time you turn around.  No need to keep up with beauty trends you see on YouTube or Instagram.

First of all, beauty is within.

Shining in your own skin is the most gorgeous beauty of all.  Exuding a confident you with bare skin or barely there makeup is fun and empowering.  You’ll feel your most beautiful.

3. Being mindful and practicing self-care

It can be easy to get caught up in the stress of the day-to-day:

  • Managing testing and training in college
  • Managing your home, keeping your place clean, cooking, working in the home

You have got to put your mental health first.

I did this recently and it was really hard to think about things I like.  A lot of the activities and everyday things we do are for others.  We go out to dinner at our partner’s favorite restaurant, we do weekend activities based on what our kids want to do..when is the last time you did something for you.

So, now, it’s time.

Sit back and make a list:

  • Long baths
  • Reading
  • Knitting
  • Exercising
  • Travel

Make the list as long as you’d like, then, start by trying to do one of those things every week. As each week goes by try to add more things you love into the picture so you can do multiple things you enjoy on a regular basis.

Do things for you. It’s ok to be selfish. Buy yourself flowers, go on a coffee date with only you, slow down, take joy in the things you love.
